Lunch and a Bite of History – The Big Cut West of Tracy “The Railroads and Hard Winter of 1880-81”

May 6 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

FREE

Cindy Wilson, author of The Beautiful Snow: The Ingalls Family, the Railroads and the Hard Winter of 1880-81, will provide an engaging forty-minute presentation, The Big Cut West of Tracy.  It is about the dangers faced during the winter of 1880-81.  That was a historically difficult winter, when blizzard snows blocked the tracks and prevented trains from reaching newly settled towns in western Minnesota and eastern Dakota Territory.

The author says, “I use the Tracy Cut as the “Exhibit A” of the presentation (as it played one of the roles of antagonist in The Long Winter by Laura Ingalls Wilder), and through the Tracy Cut, we can understand the various factors that impacted the people that winter.”

Due to COVID-19, attendees are encouraged to have lunch before or after attending this program.
